I have two "check engine" warnings on my display. One is the amber light on the lower right display, the other in the center - says " check engine & engine electronics".
These both came on at the same time, coincidentally at THE SAME TIME I removed the fuel cap, the amber fuel reserve light came on / blinking. I bet this is all related - something simple. Car runs great, no obvious problems or changes. Fuel reserve indicator is off, "engine warnings" still on.
Looking for suggestions to remedy this, without a $150 trip to the computer diagnosis / reset garage. Anyone?

If the warnings
came on when you removed the fuel cap then you must have removed the fuel cap while the engine was running![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
big no no.
With car off key out remove gas cap and put it back on properly
then start the car and let it idle in park for 10 minutes.
Warnings should go out.If not just drive it after enough drive cycles it will clear.
and don't do that again

a little bit heavy reading, but pg 22-28 contains great info and insight into how
trouble codes and check engine lights are activated (and extinguished). if this info
sinks into your brain, you almost possess the superpowers of ohlord (but not quite).

oh lord to the rescue AGAIN!!!! Earlier today, all the warning lights went off. I won't repeat that error with the gas cap again. Why is this a big no-no? Just another safety thing or actually a problem for the car?
I'm REAL happy I didn't spend $200+ to cure that one.
Now, if I can find another magical cure to fix the #@**$# rock chip / dent in may otherwise perfect hood. That happened on the same day as the gas cap thing. That was NOT a very happy day.
MANY THANKS to oh lord as always!!!! Mike62

The gas tank is pressurized. When you opened the gas cap with engine running, you released the pressure. It is like this on many cars - so much so that many of the newer cars put in a new light dedicated just for the gas cap.

So much so
that the car he has was displaying the blinking fuel low light which was even on old cars like his![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
OP no it won't harm things just part of the emissions system to indicate a gross vapor leak. The fuel gauge blinking was a cap off/askew warning.
The other warnings were because you removed it while running.
It if drove it with the cap loose or off it would run but you might not like how she run
