genetic transmission dipstick 99 e320
bought a genetic dipstick from ebaY. did not read it carefully and found that the dipstick tool is for the 722.6 version but the tub is different sizes for the different models.
does anyone know how much of the tool should I stick in to measure correctly. I stick it in all the way till it stops and it indicates I need trans fluid. just want to make sure.
regards

What makes you think you don't have a 722.6 'genetic' transmission?
There have been posts here and elsewhere on the correct dimensions of the dipstick tool. Google 'homemade dipstick tool' or some such.
Seriously, start by making sure the transmission (not just the engine) is fully up to operating temperature. For most of us that means driving at least 20-30 min. Second, make sure you have a level place to park the car. If in doubt, place a carpenter's level on the door sill.
If you look at the plastic tip of the tool you will see two bands. One at the top usually marked 80C and one at the bottom marked 25C. In between is a series of small hash marks. With the transmission in Park and the engine running, add the correct AT fluid until the level is within the upper band. Add a little at a time and use the hash marks to guide you. If you overfill, you must drain some out or you risk damaging the transmission. Adjusting when the transmission is not up to temperature will also result in overfilling.
One last thing. Are you sure you are inserting the tool all the way until the plastic tip reaches the bottom of the pan? I ask because there's a restriction part way in.
