Transmission Problems

Hi All,

I have a '97 plate E300TD with 4-speed auto box which is having transmission problems

It is intermittently failing to engage gear, just sits there with the engine revving high. Running the selector up and down 'persuades' it to select a gear and it pulls away but feels like a manual with a slipping clutch.

A mechanic (who hasn't seen it, only telephone diagnosis) has advised a gearbox/torque converter replacement but recommended that it's more than the car is worth to do the work.

I've had the car about 8 years and as far as I know it's never had transmission oil topped up/changed in that time.

Any thoughts or suggestions for anything else that might be worth trying?

Thanks

Martin

-Scan your codes and post them herre.
-Make sure your alternator is producing enough current to run the transmission electronics
-The transmission has a solenoid and a few other things that can go wrong with it, which are minor compared to replacement.
-After you identify the problem, change your transmission fluid and filter.
