01 E430?

Hi all,

I have a friend who is interested in buying a 2001 E430 with 90000 miles on it for $10000. Can you guys give me your two cents on how this model does after 10 years? Will there be serious mechanical issues? Is the money worth it? I personally have a C300 and do not know much about the E430. Thanks for any advice in advance.

Well, I bought mine 2 1/2 years ago with 104K on the clock and it's been a great car for almost 45K miles since. Look in the stickys in this forum and at Benzworld for W-210 E Class issues. The E430 V8 engine has few issues but there are other things to look out for in the car. As always, it really depends on how well the car was maintained and taken care of. To me, $10K is a little high unless you have the maintenance history and a PPI reveals absolutely no issues. You'd want to know that the trans has been serviced, the tires are fairly new, recent brakes, no current or pending fault codes, no pixel issues in the dash display, etc. Good luck

Why? I've never heard that the older 420 motor is any better. The E430 motor is pretty bullet proof and the '00, '01 and '02 cars have the updated features and styling.

Thanks for the replies.
So there doesn't seem to be any big reliability issues. Do you think the price is right for $9k-10k?

Well, with 90K miles, I would think $9K would be about right. Don't Forget that at 100K, you are looking at a major service including new plugs. But price should be dependent on condition and maintenance history, e.g., has the trans fluid been changed, etc. Are there service records? And, always get a PPI.
