Cool Door Locks

My E320 - 2001 My door locks are not working. My remote will activate the alarm, but the locking mechanism either stays locked or it stays unlocked. Also the trunk is locked and will not open with the remote and will not open inside the car. The rear head rests will not release either. I checked the fuses (41, 5, 19) and the fuses were in good shape. I'm stumbed. What else can it be? A relay? Any insight?

Thanks,

same insights i gave on the other forum. sounds almost like classic case
of water intrusion affecting the electrics and PSE module. eliminate that first
before moving to other guesses

fyi, all of those items are controlled by the PSE pump/vacuum system.

Cool PSE Issue

I checked the fuses. All signs point to the PSE pump. Is there a fix or direction to correcting the PSE short of purchasing a new pump?

Try cleaning or drying it out. If it was fried it probably would have blown some fuses or tripped a relay.

used PSE unit will cost you $200+, or $500+ from the dealer. either way,
the car must be recoded to introduce it to the new PSE using the Star
Diagnosis System.

The other equally important point is that there are loads of "hawkers of PSE pumps"on the internet.

Another issue is make sure that the pump you buy is interchangeable with the PSE pump for your car as there are numerous variations of pumps depending on model and functions.

The bad news is that you buy and install a pump that can not be version coded to you car. Then you become a new "hawker of PSE pumps.

Check EPC for your pump number then before you buy get the pump number and do a part search in EPC if your model comes up that's good, if it doesn't keep looking.

The pumps are not cheap therefore be watchful.

I have same difficulty with my 99 E300. Don't know the term PSE and where it might be located.

mbo...

Pneumatic Systems Equipment (pump)

you can see this under the rear seat recess next to battery. has plumb-age
leading into it to operate vacuum assisted appliances.

BTW, is there a special secret to changing one of the air lines?
I'm a little reluctant to force them, I don't know the breaking strength of the connectors.
I need to disconnect and reconnect for my door swap.

My '02 was leaking from the seam under the trim strips on the roof. Had to replace my PSE because, unbeknownst to me, water collected in the battery compartment and the foam surrounding the PSE wicked it up into the unit causing it to fail.
