Hit the Mother of all Potholes...
Bent my rim, put a bubble in the sidewall of a new Michellin (already bought another new one), sterring wheel now off center with slight pull to the right.
Anyone else do something like this? Do you think its a bent control arm or something less??? I find out on Wedensday...wish me luck.

I hate pot hole and I even hate bad patches of quick fix from the road crew where it's not paved right. I always worried about blowing out my tire or knocking out my alignment.

I hit the uncle of all potholes on the NJ TPK,bent 2 AT Riva rims on the same hole, ruined one tire, and NJ told me to go F%$# myself. Some bull about them not knowing about the hole before I hit it.If they knew about it and I hit it,they would have paid me,so they say.Good luck there Smoke.

I had this a few years ago. Told the local council about me damaging a rim and losing a tyre and they told me they did not know about the problem so could not compensate me. I then got 2 freinds to ring and complain about the pothole and then rang the next day and told them about damaging my car and got a full refund off them.

I hope you get that rim fixed asap. Driving around with a dented wheel, I ended up damaging the suspension and wheel bearings because it could not take the vibration when I drove at speed. I had to replace almost the entire suspension due to the dented wheel.

Ok...well here's the damage: Needed a new sport wheel, $225 and a 4 wheel alignment and I'm now good to go. Nothing was bent or broken.
Also, they detected a O-ring seal leak on the Tranny. So they replaced those and did a tune up to it (drain and fill, new filters, etc.) Wow! what a difference. The car shifts much more smoothly now up and down. 91K on the car.

(I see this is an older post, but this seems a logical place - let me know if I should have started a new thread given the age, since I'm Newbie).
"Hello My Name Peggy"
I must have then hit the ghost of potholes past. I found out this morning one of my rims was out of round while having new tires put on for scheduled change (7:30am thankyouverymuch I'm not a morning person).
- First concern - they told me it wasn't a hugh issue and put the rim on the rear axle.
- Second concern - they told me I could send the rim off and Mercedes would "heat it to reshape it" vs $500 est for a new one.
Comments...questions...concerns?
First concern work around for now: they didn't think of this - and I didn't either until after I left, to have them exchange the spare rim with the one I'll send off.![Popcorn](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/popc1.gif)
Second concern: do they really heat rims to reshape them at MB? And does this weaken it (metallurgy is outside my paygrade). I'm guessing they are very smart at MB and wouldn't do that to their precious wheel. I do want to get the rim fixed (or replaced), but not risk my safety for a few hundred smackers so will not make the assumption.
Rims are the standard alloy issue and original to the car as far as I know. There was no visible sign of damage and no vibration before tire/alignment this morning, even at high speeds :-) There's no telling when this happened - anytime in the last year.
You can barely see it only when you spin the tire on the axle but you had to stare straight at it (and compare to a good rim spin). Nothing eventful in the routine tire alignment or brake job today - just standard stuff. Just so happens both collided at the same scheduled visit. Oh ya...and a Schedule A - cha-ching.

Yes indeed have done it even when I look for them.Tell ya tho,,the MB wheels survive much better than some of the alternative rims Ive had..Cant say the same for my Pirellis Snows...they be bubblin and still going...as long as they dont shimmy,
Hit one last week in NJ doing 60,,,lost 10 lbs of air after 8 hours but refilled it and its fine.![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)

Years ago we had a guy come into our office who had been out visiting a client, and he hit something that was sticking up out of the road - it wasn't a pothole, but he had a hole punched through the tread of the tire and a corresponding hole (about 1.5 inches across) punched through the inside of the rim.
Whatever it was, I hope I don't ever encounter it.

You can get
a replacement from an mb wrecking yard for 100 bucks.
you could get a whole set of custom 16in rims for $500
Mercedes will not repair a bent rim. They just send it to a rim repair outfit.
Stop going to the dealer. If a service A cost you " cha-ching"
you paid to much.

Thanks ohlord - I'll opt for a wreck replacement. My mechanic is on the look for one already.
The Cha-ching was because of all the routine work I had in 24 hrs (scheduled check up, brakes and tires). Yes Dealer Schedule As are pricey. I am lucky I found a great Italian mechanic I trust, and who does all my work at his own shop.

Yesterday, my wife hit a ghost pot hole (pleads the 5th) and then had to drive on the blowout for a mile until she had enough shoulder to pull over on. needless to say i need a new rim. Can anyone recommed an MB resource in the Twin Cities for a replacement or to true it up? I checked the big salvage yards and they dont have any.
Thanks
Thanks

Thanks, but for some reason I don't trust sending my stuff to a place over the internet.
I had the rim repaired locally for $150. They did a great job, and were quick.
