Removing rocker panel..?

Is it possible to remove the rocker panels on a 98 E320? I read a few threads with instructions:

No special tool needed. you need to peel off the black stripe in the superior part of the skirt (open 2 doors & you will see a black stripe sticker) remove it, remove 5 or 6 screws, remove the lower screws & they pop of very easy (you need to pull it to front a little to desengage it to the fender clip)
But when I remove the strip it appears that the rocker is part of the body and not removable. Can anyone confirm this? According to the quote, there are supposed to be screws, I didn't see any. Are they recessed in the holes that the black strip pops into?

Yhap i post this tip before. but this is only for the AMG packages! (with plastic skirt insert) i think your E320 has not the amg package correct? the normal E320's rocker panel is simple the body sheet metal frame! you would'nt remove the rocker panel in this car

Yea, no AMG package here. Guess I'll have to deal with the dent/scratch in the rocker. How the previous owner even did this I have no idea.

Thanks for clearing it up though!

Only the post facelifted cars from 6/99 on had the urethane side skirts that can be removed as you mentioned. On pre-face lift models only those fitted with the AMG or Brabus side kits have panels which can be removed. Standard model pre-face lift cars had no side skirt attached. As stated above it is the metal side rockers which are welded to the car and cannot be removed as you had mentioned.

You can purchase post face lift side skirts new or used and attach to to pre- face lift car. That may help your cause. Try the salvage yards and they may even have the color of your car available. Wagon and sedan used the same piece as the wheel base on both models is the same.

Thanks for the tip... I do actually know of a junk yard right by my house that has a 2000 E320. It's white but I'm sure I could get them painted.

Any DIY threads on how to install them? I tried searching a little but couldn't find much about the rockers in particular.

Contact our sponsor, www.MymercedesParts.com, which is an MB dealership in South Atlanta and ask for Bob Rox. He has been there for 35 years and is extremely helpful. Ask him to order the attachment kit for you and provide the mounting diagram. He is a great resource.
