Mass Air Flow

Where do I find a Mass Air Flow sensor? (Bosch preferred). Autozone can get it, but they want 200 bucks. I saw somewhere that they can be had for 100.

I checked autohaus, but they don't have it, or I didn't search correctly.

I used MAF cleaner, but it is still throwing the code. I'm going to have the check engine light reset and we'll see if it throws the code again.

I've got a road trip planned for next weekend and really would like to take this car, but I'm not likely to do it until it quits throwing the code. That may require the new MAF sensor. My fingers are crossed that the cleaner did the trick.

I'll keep you posted. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't use autozone

or a 100 buck maf both not oem no matter what they say.
p0170/p0173 codes?
cleaning might work but don't erase the codes. If the cleaning works the ecu will adapt and the codes will clear themselves.
At age of car replace

146buck air mass sensor and be done with it.Cleaning is a short term solution if it works at all.
Might want to toss in an air filter since you are going to have the air box cover off anyway.

Oops! I already reset the code. I did change the air filter, though, a couple of weeks ago.

We'll see if the light stays off.

Thanks!

Ditto to ohlord and autohausaz. Cleaning it might buy you a little time but it's a good idea to buy a new one and carry it as a spare in the trunk. Order a serpentine belt while you're at it and maybe a few fuses, bulbs and a couple of filters.

What harm would it cause if the MAF sensor failed again? It ran fine even when throwing the codes before. I ran 60 miles today and the light was still off and everything sounded and felt good.

The serpentine belt is in good shape with no cracking or visual wear. I'm probably going to go ahead and replace it this summer, anyway, but I'm not sure it is urgent. The next thing on the list is to flush/fill the coolant system. I'm leaning toward Peak Global antifreeze, unless someone here has a better suggestion.

Code comes

back problem still exists you might see some hesitation leaving stop lights and fewer mpg and won't pass a smog test. Other than that nothing major unless you ignored it for a good while.

Coolant 50/50 mix either mb coolant or zerex GO5 only
do not use anything else. The mb alloy likes only the 2 mentioned.

Is the Zerex available at typical auto stores? We have O'Reilly, Advance, Napa, and Autozone.

Yup

it is and be sure to dilute 50/50 with distilled water if you buy it full strength.
GO% is the same as MB coolant just a different dye pack.

The reason I mentioned buying a serpentine belt is you never know when they will wear out and where you will be when it happens. And since you are a DIY you are bound to blow a fuse or bulb eventually too.

Good idea. This is the first car I've had where parts are not always immediately available.

Also, I've driven over 150 miles now without the MAF sensor triggering a code. So far so good!

You were smart to inspect it. AFAIK mine is the original so they last at least 87,000 miles and 10 years.

Missed this earlier. If you don't know how old the coolant is please change it. MB says every 3 years. They also recommend brake fluid r/r every 2 years or 20,000 miles. I don't know how necessary that is but I follow those guidelines.
