Alarm Problems - Bit Of A Long One

I seem to have a problem with my Merc's factory alarm. The fob unlocks and locks the car and sometimes will open and close all the windows but has a mind of its own. The red light doesn't flash when locking. None of the lights flash when I unlock and lock it nor does it make a sound. I have tried to set the alarm off and can't get it to. I have a valet key and have tried it in both positions. I have tried to follow the wires from the siren but they disappear behind some wire harness' and can't trace them. I would like it to work but if I can't get it to work, would like to remove and replace with aftermarket one but don't want to cause more gremlins. Any ideas anyone?

Have your Indy run a DIAG on it. They know the system and it will be much quicker for you. Ask them to also check the key. I assume you have the original as well as the valet?
