'89 300TE Stereo sounds like crap
First post here, so bear with me. I recently turned 16 and got my license and my parents bought me an '89 300TE. I love the thing, it's glorious. Only problem is the thing sounds like crap. I'm running my MP3 player through a cassette adapter in the stock system. I've done this with other cars, and never had a problem, it always came through pretty nicely. I listen to dubstep and heavy metal, and it always sounded nice through my family's newer car. I know it's not the cassette or my MP3 player, but I can't tell if it's the actual stereo, or if the speakers are blown. I really miss being able to crank my music, and I'd love some cheap and easy help. My birthday is coming up and my parents want to buy me new speakers, but I figured I should figure out the problem first, then figure out what I need to fix said problem. I don't want to replace the stereo unless I have to, I don't mind the cassette/MP3 set up, and I never use CDs. Plus it looks like it belongs to the car. And if I need to replace my speakers, how can I do that? I can't find any screws on the mesh covers. I basically need a total walkthrough and I would GREATLY appreciate it. I figure you guys already know exactly what the inside of my car looks like, but I figure might as well post pics just in case mine is weird or different for some reason.

(the first 7 are of the car, the other ones in there are of my yoyos and Portland trip, ignore them haha)
Oh yeah, I also want to get a bumper sticker that says "The Frau" or something like that for my Benz, any idea where to get one? Or is that kind of a dumb thing to do?
Thank you in advance!

Wrong section, you should be over in the w124 section with the rest of us :P
Head-unit: Low wattage/amperage, not terribly powerful. Easy upgrade is to one of the later model Becker or Mercedes units with CD drives in them and an AUX port on the back.
Some drop-in headunits:
Mercedes Audio10
Mercedes/Becker 4602 (CD) <- What I have
You'll need a AUX-In adapter like this. The larger, white ISO-DIN connector is the one you want.
Speakers can be tricky, but I'm using these and have been happy with them. I'd like a sub one day to clean up the sound from the coaxials, but that is down the road.
t142c (Front on coupe)
t152c (Rear on coupe)
You may need an extra set or have different sizes in the Wagon, I don't know to be honest.

You are in the wrong forum you are a w124
No matter though as we can advise
Get a 100 buck HD radio with mp3 or USB input
You can find them on sale at best buy
Test your speakers and keep the good ones
You have a wonderful wagon. Be proud. They look great lowered on 18 inch rims and slight tint windows
Keep us posted with pics
Even after you go to the correct forum
I own a few wagons and a few w124 300E sedans![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

Let me know if you need any odd parts from the donor
