Need help changing the radio!

So I have a "loved" 97 E320, its got the Bose sound system. However, The volume control knob moves the volume all over the place. It will turn the volume up or down when you turn the knob.. barely any control over sound. I just bought a DUAL XHD7720 Head unit and was wondering how to take out the OEM radio and replace it with the Dual. As well as if there was any way to keep the 6 Disc CD changer working. Thanks!

Too bad you didn't stop here first. The volume control is probably just dirty. Several people have sprayed electronic contact cleaner in that area and resolved the problem.

To remove your old radio you need a set of 'radio removal keys'. They are inserted in the horizontal slots at the lower corners releasing the catches. Then radio just slides out. Good ones from dealer or Becker NA. Ones online depends. They also retrieve the CCU if needed.

No aftermarket head units I know of support the CD changer. Some newer Becker radios support the newer Silverstone CD changers. Becker also sells an exchange radio for your old one which would maintain your changer.

Hopefully, you new radio came with a patch cable and an antenna adapter so you don't have to cannibalize the MB wiring.

I have had pretty good luck getting the radio keys from ebay. Make sure you get your radio code if you plan to fix it.

Yes that's what most have tried. You should be able to remove the knob. If you take the radio out or at least part way out you may also see small holes near the front of the cover (check top, side and bottom) where the plastic tube can be inserted. The 'technical procedure' is to spray then rotate the knob back and forth a few times -- then repeat.

FYI, if the knob is kind of cruddy (common), Becker sells a replacement for that era model.

Hope that helps some.
