bought the car back to the bodyshop yesterday to have them take off excess compound inside the bodypanels I couldn't reach. they actually gave me a loaner car for the day, which was nice of them (bmw 325xi station wagon woo hoo
)
They called today saying the car is all set to go (they washed it too), but the smartkey doesn't work. They replaced the batteries, but still no good.
anybody have any input on this? The key now does nothing. Neither opens the doors, trunk, or starts the car. What should I do? Only way is to buy a new key? (On the bright side, if I were to get a new key it would be a newer style smaller smartkey with the chrome MB logo)

re: keys
paomien
sorry, I d/n have any advice, but this is exactly the reason I have not changed the battery in the car or the batteries in my keys. I am concerned that once you fool around with this stuff, suddenly they will not operate properly. Please post another update when after you decide what to do.
regards,
Tim

update on smartkey situation
Turns out that my extended warranty does in fact cover the transmitter. Only problem is that since the replacement will be a new style smartkey (mine is the older bigger one pre 00 style)i'll have to order a new blade to go along with it, as the old one won't fit. At first the warranty company didn't want to cover the blade, but after I explained to them that the key, although it would start the car and all, still needs the new blade in order to lock the glovebox, trunk, etc. Placed the order for a new key today, should be here in a few days. Hopefully with the new key the range will be better, too!
