Possible causes for non cold aircon when EC light not on?

Hi,

i have auto aircon.

All seems to work fine, except it never gets really cold.

The EC light is not on.
So I assume that the level of coolant is ok? Or is that misleading?
(handbook says that if coolant level low then it will stay in EC mode only).

If there is no coolant loss, what is likely to be the problem?

Thanks for any info,
Phil.

Hi again,

i just found a tech article on this site showing how to reset the erros for the aircon.

I assume i should be able to check what is not working by looking at the error codes.

Ok...slightly confused.
I had a few errors codes. I cleared them (as the heater control regulator has recently been replaced).

After checkign again i get one error code that is still there -
E61 416.

Anyone have any idea what this is.

The erros codes do not correspond to the article i found on this site.

Thanks
phil

First, the coolant level refers to the antifreeze mixture in the radiator and engine. The refrigeration level (amount of R134) is what triggers a EC light and stops the compressor from running.

Is this the site you used?

http://www.eclassbenz.com/node/27

If so you can post your results there or you can post results here starting with all the values you obtained using the diagnostics followed by the error codes.

I believe 1416 may point to a faulty coolant pump but I haven't had the problem personally. Other possibilities are a blower motor regulator (common problem with W210's) or air baffles in the heater box not opening as they should. There's a diagnostic for that but it's complicated.

This time of year - AC issues can make you CRAZY !!!!

I had a similar situation with my wife's 99 E430 - The BEST advice I can give you is to TAKE IT TO AN MB DEALER OR AN INDIE MECHANIC - WHO KNOWS WHAT THE HELL HE'S DOING and let him do a total diagnostic - WELL WORTH the $100 or so dollars you'll shuck out to get THE CORRECT answer......

After screwing around on this forum with MY problem for over a couple of weeks - having LOTS of people "look at" my posts, but very few people (a whole THREE GUYS posted - BTW, THANK YOU speedn_j, yeldogt & RusselOmerod for actually TRYING TO HELP ME - I really DO appreciate your input) posting and actually offering any ideas as to what my problem was (with the car) - I threw up my hands and had it looked at - and I GOT THE PROBLEM SOLVED.....

What a concept........... sensing my sarcasm?

Don't get me wrong = I really do appreciate everyone that did try to help me with their ideas in trying to solve my specific situation, but in the end - nobody on this site had the answer... the CORRECT answer as to what MY car's issue REALLY was........

Again - My advice - take your car to either the dealer, or an independent mechanic to get the real deal answer.............

sorry for your situation - hope you can get it fixed soon
