Battery replacement without resets

After 6 years I decided to replace my battery as preventative maintenance. $75 after a $50 coupon at Advance Auto seemed worth saving a likely breakdown in the near future.

Anyway I have a suggestion for anyone wishing to avoid having to do any window or radio resets post battery replacement. Before disconnecting the battery I parked another car next to my e320 and connected jumper cables to the power (+) and ground blocks under the hood. This way while the battery was disconnected for a few minutes I was borrowing a speck of juice from my other car to keep everything set. The only thing you need to be careful for is not letting the positive battery cable touch any grounded metal while its disconnected since it will be hot.

New battery installed, everything as before. no resets required.

You can do the same thing with a 9v battery and a pair of wires.
