Exclamation Brake Fluid Warning

Today i was driving and finally pulled over to park and i set my handbrake and then this message pops up on my cluster in bright red lights that say " BRAKE ((!)) FLUID" and now every time i start my car it shows up...

So i went and checked the brake fluid and the pads for low level or wear and all seem to be okay, have no problems with braking and stopping. was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what might be causing this.

Have went through the search and found a lot on brake wear sensors and stuff but found nothing on brake fluid warning, and couldn't find anything in the vehicle manual. all help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Jeff

I believe there is a sensor in the brake fluid reservoir. That could be defective. If there are specs for testing it I'm not aware of them. It's probably just replace and see if it helps.

And...

whenever you get unexplained sensor errors or loss of sync on windows/sunroof on a W210 consider the car's battery. If it's over 4 years old it's suspicious, although some have gotten 7 years+ on the MB OEM batteries.

The OEM regular duty batteries are good for 4-7 years and the heavy duty Black cased gel batteries from 5-9 years according to MB. The battery must be able to fully charge in order for all functions to work properly. The M112 motor requires a fully charging battery to start, regardless of the age of the battery. Have it tested at a local parts house for free if in doubt.

I'm pretty sure I figured my problem out. The fluid in my tank was closer to the "min" level, so when the car was tilted on a very angled overpass, the fluid got to the point where it no longer contacted the sensor for a long enough time to trigger the alert. It didn't come back the next morning, and my brakes work fine.

as richard stated above, i also speculated that it was probably a sensor that went kaput because i would check the fluid every time to see if it was filled, dirty or had stuff in the fluid and found nothing. so i could only conclude it would be a sensor, but never got around to replace it, so hopefully the warning doesnt come back.

yeah that makes sense it almost like when you are almost out of gas and you drive up the hill and the gas light comes on and then when you go back down the other side it shows 1/4 tank. haha
