2000 E320 -Audio System & Wiring Questions?
I recently purchased a 2000 E320 that had a very basic aftermarket stereo installed (Kenwood KDC-MP245). This radio did not work with the steering wheel controls.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I would like to purchase a better stereo and would like to utilize the steering wheel controls and cell phone functions.

I have removed the Kenwood and found that is was connected using only the larger 16 pin connector (The smaller 10 Pin Connector and fiber optic link was not connected to anything). There is also a Red wire that had been cut and was just laying loose behind the radio. I am not sure if I have a "Bose" type system or not.

Could someone help me to understand what type of system (components) I need to utilize the steering wheel controls and the cell phone functionality (I'm hoping that the cell phone controls can be via blue tooth via the new stereo system)
Here is a photo of the available connectors, Note the Cut Red Wire.

If you want to use the built in Mercedes phone features, the only head unit that will interact is the original Becker radio. Going aftermarket, you will need to find one with built in bluetooth features and one that has steering wheel control capabilities. After that you will need to use steering wheel control interface(s). If you go with the PAC units, you will need two, the SWI-CAN2 and the one that matches your radio. There is a good writeup if you search.
BTW, the E320 did not have Bose as standard, but maybe as option. If you did, the rear speaker covers would have the Bose emblem.
