1997 E320 Gearshifts + door locks
I have 1997 E320 Elegance, it's in a very good condition, still have it's MB hypnotizing power, still have the joy of driving a MB ^_^
i have two problems:
1. when i'm driving 100-140 km/h (60-85 mph) the car suddenly shifts the gear down to the 4th (if it was on the fifth) and then suddenly changes to the 5th, at that time i have to manually shift it to the 4th and then put it back to the D mode .. what is the problem?? how can i solve it???
2. when i unlock the doors, the rear doors don't unlock.. so i have to unlock them manually... but when i lock the car, all doors lock

Hi,
Shift problem may be caused by electric switch that operates the overdrive (5th) gear. Mine recently went and would not change into 5th, I replaced switch, relatively simple fix, but cost about $160 here in Australia.
Rear door problem is most likely a leak or hole in one of the vacuum hoses for the door locks. Fixed mine by replacing short length of hose, need to find the hole first though. Can you here a hissing sound coming from the rear doors when you try to lock/ unlock?
Hope this helps
Cheers
