99 E300 Problem

I know absolutely nothing about W210's so bare with me. At MB dealership they thought they saw oil residue in the coolant. They thought it would be the head gasket going. I think it's a good running car. Does anyone think it's worth fixing if it's the head gasket? Oil is sweating on the hoses by the way. Not constant though. Just once or twice. Thanks for any response.

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Take it to

another shop. A good indie shop. They can test for combustion gas in the coolant and run other tests to determine headgasket failure.
Diesel mercedes rare event. Thought they saw is just a scam.
Get proof. It ain't rocket science to do that.

How many miles on the car? Is it rusty? Is everything else in good working order?
Figure a headgasket will cost you roughly $2k to fix. Not to mention anything else in there that may need fixing once you open up the engine. I just did a headgasket job on my car. It came out great and I'm happy with the result. I have zero oil leaks now. I did a bunch of preventive maintenance work while in there so my engine is good for another 150k. Half the work was done by my mechanic, and the other half by me.

No, no rust. No oil leaks, no overheating. Nothing on the radiator cap, it's completely dry. The car runs great. Oh, and 145K.

Oil in the coolant could be from something as simple as a stop leak, like the old formulation of Barrs Leaks which was pellets of organic material in oil. the oil was supposed to lube the water pump seal.

Isn't there a transmission oil-coolant heatexchanger on the 300diesel that could also cause this?! Coolant in the transoil could kill the trans quickly btw...

Yes. There is a trans cooler, however I don't think it is hooked up to any coolant lines. The trans cooler is the metal rod that wraps around the front of the dual cooling fans I believe.

Ahh, on my CDI the transcooler is on the driver side mounted against the front of the engine. I has coolant running through it so the trans fluid warms up quickly and is then kept at a constant temp. There have been cases of Valeo-brand transcoolers leaking, so coolant got into the trans, causing it to go 'byebye' quickly...

Behr transcoolers never leak, fortunatly mine is a Behr brand!
