E55 shocks and springs

I was going to buy E55 shocks and springs . But the tech at the MB dealer strongly reccomend against it . He claims it will cause me problems .He also said you cannot do shocks and springs without doing sway bars . But still told me not to do it and that they would not install them for me as Mb clear states not to do this .Is this true ? I know alot of members here have done it .

you can do the sways at any time, they don't need to be done at the same time you do springs/shocks

Per Kwik, there probably would not be any adverse affects of just upgrading to E55 shocks/springs. But, the E55 was designed to have all E55 components to be used together. Many hours of R&D to fine tune these items has been done. Going with the shocks/springs probably would improve upon your stock W210 without the bars.

But if you going through all of the expense and trouble of getting the E55 components, why not look into a H&R or Eibach shock/spring combo? This way you know that these components have been tested on non-E55 W210s.

My 2 cents...

The reason I was thinking about going with E55 shocks and springs are I can get both for around 400. I belive H&R an Eibach are much more. Could you point me in the right direction of a good cheap supplier of H&R an Eibach just so I can compare

Thanks

I have the E55 AMG Bilstein shocks with Eibach springs on my 2000 E430. I found a set of E55 springs and shocks on eBay for a great price. I sold the springs because I already had the Eibachs.

I really want the sway bars, but they are pretty expensive, even with the 20% discount I get at dealer. Getting them installed cost a bunch, too.

I have no problems with the Eibachs and E55 shocks. Firmed up ride over stock and lowered it a bit.

Check Tire Rack, Strano's, or do an online search to find cheap dealers for springs.

Wow $400 for everything, then thats the way to go. I was assuming you were going to purchase new from the dealer or another vendor. MikeyE430 has provided great feedback on performance and ride with this combo. I don't think you could find H&R or Eibach combo for less than $400.

Yea it seems like a good deal they do have 10,000 miles on them. But if I can get the eibach and H&R new for close to that I may go that route and get new stuff

My other problem is having a hard time finding someone to install them in the boston area

For the install, I am sure you can find a small, independent shop. The stealer typically does not want to touch items they did not supply to you. Also, since the W210 does not ride on MacPherson struts, this works to your advantage because there is slightly less labor involved. Especially if you are just replacing the shocks.
