New cluster installed compliments to ohlord
Once again Rob was a huge help, and sold me a very nice instrument cluster for my 2000 e430 4matic. Plug and play, no coding needed, easy install. Rob is probably one of the most knowledgeable people I know of when it comes to Mercedes, and even though I myself am a Mechanic, I consider his word law. Just extending my gratitude, and letting everyone know how much he's assisted me. I probably can't even keep track of the amount of money he, and other members of this forum has saved me, because when it comes to mercedes, I'm still quite new. Between my converter issue and this alone my pocketbook has a sigh of relief!
Install was quite easy. Most guides and how to's tell you to order a special tool to remove the cluster, but by being a mechanic and always trying to save a penny, I took a microfiber cloth, wrapped it around my screwdriver, and just popped the old cluster out. There's 2 spots you need to pry or pull at, the 9 o clock position, and the 3 o clock position. The removal of the old unit and install of the new unit took maybe 10 minutes, and that's an overestimated figure. Very easy, and with the plug and play unit I acquired through rob, much much easier! Thanks again!

OP did not log on the forum for 7 years, but general rule - always disconnect the battery doing electrical work.
