2002 E430 Replaced idle pulley, now steering feels loose

Replaced the idle pulley, after it broke and v-belt got shredded. Now the steering seems a bit loose. When I drive on the freeway, at speeds of 60-70 mph, the steering wheel seems to have much more play than before the replacement. I can nudge the wheel about 1-2 inches in either direction and there is very little response from the car.

Any tips?

Thank you.

Also after turning the car off, the steering wheel lock attempts to engage but does not.
And, the steering wheel has about 2 inches of play in both directions when the car is off.
