Plz Help "Do it yourself"

Hi to all,

I have been browsing this board for a while, and found this board to be very useful and it seems everyone is trying to help each other out.

If anyone can give DETAILS on the following, it would be greatly appreciated.

I just bought 1998 E-320 with 73000 Miles on it. I cant find record as to what service has been performed on it. I am thinking about doing everything to the car.

1.My qustion is Exactly what needs to be done upto and at 73000 Miles?

2.I am in Arizona, it reaches 115 degrees here, But its Dry heat What type and weight motor oil I should use?

3.Also, along with service you all recommend, should I do differntial oil change and what brand and weight.

4. Power moon roof opens only little and it stops, and makes noises, however tilt works fine. I use tilt switch to close moonroof back. I believe there are 2 cables. What do you think needs changing.

Please send details here or to my e mail PRONEXTSOLUTIONS@HOTMAIL.COM

Thanks in advance for your help and replies.

GOD BLESS

I am not sure about your other questions, but I had a similar problem with my moonroof, the dealer repaired it under warranty so I am not sure what they did, but when I asked them they told me all they did is lubricate the railings.

Also, if while trying to open the moonroof it opens a little then you have to let go of the button and press it again to open it more; it might be that at one point the previous owners battery died and he never reset the moonroof after jumping, try closing the moonroof using the tilt function, when closed hold the button down in close position for about 15seconds, I was told by the MB dealers that this resets the moonroof.

Hopes this helps, but in case good luck and congratulations with your purchase.

Thanks,

I will try it. My main concern was making NOISE, and it wont open further. I thought cable may of been broken. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Merc 1, go to Alldata.com and sign up for your year model MB. It will cost you about $15.00 a year, and is priceless when asking questions like what you have. The diagrams and step by step instructions are well worth it.

'04 Silverado Z71 - sold all my Benzes and need another!
As for motor oil, I agree with Benz, Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil is my choice as well. Go to Mobil 1, click on the link: "Which oil for my car" and enter your specific vehicle info.

As per my mechanic, unless your rear differential is leaking (pretty common), you don't have to worry about changing. If you still would like to change it though, look in your vehicle manual for further info.

About the sunroof, sorry I don't have one so I can't comment on that.

Congratulations on the car and post some pics. if and when you start any mods.

Ok... Here is the method for changing cabin filter:

There are EIGHT screws to remote the glove box. There are 4 that are clearly visible in the upper right and left sides of the front of the glove box. There are 2 that are on the "floor" of the inside of the glove box that are covered by plastic covers. And finally there are 2 more on the "ceiling" of the inside of the glove box that require a short screwdriver to get to. All screws are phillips head.

So I take all eight screws off and with one hard tug I snapped the glovebox out. The filters were VERY dirty and there were about 200 pine needles all over the place back there. BLAH!!! I got the parts from my local dealership, both filters come in a package. Price was like $18.50 since my friend works at a repair shop.

I slid the filters in and that was that.

I found this info on the other board.
Good luck

I was going to reply to you that they were behind the glovebox. Thanks for the description on how to change them. They must have been the original ones. The pine needles didn't give you that fresh pine smell?

Sounds like you should be good to go for a while with all of the work you had done.

Welcome to the Mercedes Family.
