Speaker quality in the E-Class
If you are replacing the speakers with the exact same size speakers and won't need to do any cutting/modding to make them fit, you might not need to remove the entire rear deck. The speaker covers in the deck (the mesh that says BOSE on it) can be popped out of the deck themselves. They are held in by 5-6 plastic hooks around the edges. Gently pry up a corner with a screwdriver and you'll see the hook. Insert a 2nd screwdriver to push the hook in and repeat all the way around.
Once the cover is off, you'll be able to see about 2/3 of the speaker and should be able to remove/replace it as long as you don't have to do any cutting.
Successful install! Took the set of tweeters from my LS400's Nakamichi system, and put them in the dashboard holes; what a difference!!!!!! Wish you guys were here to hear; no it doesn't sound like I spent $3000, but for $50, how can you go wrong? Whitey - canto pop never sounded so good

What's the spec on those tweeters of yours? What's going to happen to yoru Lexus, now that you've castrated it? Cantopop or not, I'm sure you're having a whole new audio experience dude. You will enjoy driving around in your car even more now
(as I did).Excuse my ignorance, can you tell us how to get to those holes in the dash? (if possible, step by step instructions - assuming I know nothing - I really don't!).
jimmydagreek, I have a stock headunit and stock amp. Although the tweeters that came from the nakamichi in my lexus were 4 ohm, there is plenty of sound that emits from the front two holes now!!
whitey, to get to those holes on the driver's side, remove the fuse panel and you'll see a screw to remove the top dash panel. After removing the screw, the piece just pops right up and off. Same goes for the passenger side; when you open the door, pop off the side panel, and you'll see the screw for the other side.
The installer actually had to remove the door panels, and ran wires off the front channel speakers. The sound coming from those tweeters are amazing, actually a lot louder than I expected at first, considering they're 4ohm speakers on a 2ohm system. Unfortunately they wouldn't fit into the door, but it actually sounds excellent from those two holes on the dashboard. What a difference it makes!
I have these tweeters since I changed all the speakers in the LS to focals (one of the speakers blew, and stealers wanted upwards of $300 for one nakamichi speaker....crazy!!!
) so I opted for a new set of focal utopias, which left my nakamichi tweeters available. I don't know why I didn't think of this in the first place....
Sounds like an easy job, easier than I'd expected. I might experiment with putting my tweeters or more speakers there too......

good luck! it's not that big of a project, actually, they just tapped into the front channel speakers and ran the wires through the trim into the top of the dash, so you can't even tell wires are there...
Jimmy, any thoughts?
When you pull off those front two covers, you'll find that there's nothing there but a piece you can punch out to reveal a hole big enough to fit even a small midrange-high speaker. Underneath that hole there's a garbage bag like thing that you can remove, then you have all the space you want to run whatever you'd like!!!
Surprisingly, although they're 4ohm speakers, they're loud enough to drown out the speakers in the doors...hahahaha
