Question 7sp AT from W211 on a W210

Has anyone tried this before? Did it work any better? Performance?
Fuel economy?

I wonder anyone doing this ?. The electronic nightmare from later year (W211) adapt to older (W210) will NOT work IMHO. MB brand is not for the shade tree mechanic (of the 60-70 Chevy or Ford of the last century), but very complex, talk of a simple swap of the NEW head unit already causing headache to some !. Many electronic apply to the older car (like W210), sometime a normal person do not comprehend. SWAP the tranmission of W210 to W211 (if someone make it work) COST $$$ prohibit that idea.

SoCal you knew exactly where I was coming from. It may not be a simple switch like what we are used to on this side of the ocean, however someone outthere had to at least thought of it. Food for thought.

Many regard the 5 speed box more highly than the 7g box...so even if it could be done, which I very much doubt, it wouldn't necessarily be an advantage.

Ask yourself this...why is the SLR supplied with the 5 speed, not the 7?

Renault you you make an excellent two sided point. Although the 5Spd maybe the stronger performance I wonder if the 7Spd would provide better fuel economy or touring performance. Remebering US models are forced to post the higher fuel economy ratings...

TO ALL:

Thanks for entertaining my curiosity here. I understand these are not my grandpa's transmissions, yet I could not help wondering what kind of results would I get if it was done. Thanks and keep'em coming!
