1998 E-320 Wagon
Looking at a '98 E-320 wagon
From a local dealer. One of those low rent type dealers. It has 147k on it and they want $4,250 and won't budge on the price. In this market I consider that odd. Everything seems to be in order. But some things I noticed, interior wear, a whine from the dash when using AC, sunroof does not work. Sound from the motor almost like a small exhaust leak from the collector area, not sure. Belt looks good, all pulleys look OK.
Basically trying to figure out if this is a good buy for a "third" car. Kind of between this and a Volvo V70. I found a 2001 v70 xc that was nice and had a bunch of stuff done to it for a similar and flexible price. But the 2001 v70's have a lot transmission issues from what I hear. I want something I can shade tree maintain without too many major driveline headaches and run to 300k. Not many euro wagons to choose from around here.
Also does anyone know a good independent mercedes tech in the Raleigh, NC area so that I can have the car checked out pre purchase?
If there is a better place for me to go into the forums to find this my apologies and shoo me on over there please.

98 Brilliant Silver E320 Wagon
These are generally good cars which if well maintained can go 250K or more. It doesn't sound like this one falls into that category. A lot of W210s were made. Maybe the most of any MB model (?). So keep looking. Routine maint. and repair is very reasonable if you are a DIYer. Check out the sticky at the top for some of the issues with W210. Also, there have been several threads on purchasing a W210. Similar info on W210 forum at benzworld.org as well.
