Bad Gas...Engine Light
My 99 E320 with 57K miles has been acting funny I believe its due to bad fuel I filled up on. Around 4K rpms it spudders starting out and is sluggestion ...almost as if it can't breath. Its I've added fuel injection cleaner which hasn't solved my problem. I just ordered a new fuel filter in hopes this may help. Its lost its punch...any suggestions??? Phil

I've been having the same exect problem.
Car rides smooth till 4k RPM then there is a weird lose of power and then it seems to upshift and smooth out again, and the reverse happens when slowing down.
When I took it in for service last time, the dealer said something about it being an adjustive trasmission which got used to a certain driving style, however I have suspicion that was all bull.
If anyone knows what can be causing it and possible solution it would be great to get some info.

I got a bad tank of gas 3 months ago @ 52,000 miles. The check engine light came on and, like you folks, the punch was gone.
Took it to an independent who said the oxygen sensors caused the check engine light. He changed the gas filter, put some additive (don't know what but I can find out if needed) in the remaining 3/4 tank of gas and directed me to run it down to just below 1/4 and then use Sonoco 94 octane for the next few fill ups.
Problem solved. Price: $200, which included a synthetic oil change, air filter, dust filters and complete fluid check, including the tranny.
He said Stealership would have probably changed all 4 oxygen sensors for something like $1,500.

Glad it worked out for you Fathead. Sometimes, you can't trust those stealerships...As Fathead did, you might also want to check your airfilters and make sure they're not dirty and all clogged up assisting the choking that is either caused by the bad gas or???
