abs issue/first post

Hi folks
This is my first post, first of many i suspect as my e300td is sick
I had my abs, bas esp light come on and after checking things out noticed that the left hand rear reluctor ring was split. also the drivers side one had a split too. So have replaced them both and now when i drive the abs comes on when braking and when i get over 40mph system fails ie abs, bas esp fault. Can someone provide me a photo of their drive shaft for comparison as i suspect i put the new rings on too far.
Many thanks
Dave.

You did a good job defining the hardware issues, however you have not cleared the original(non OBD) faults.

You need someone with factory diagnnostic software or equal to clear the chassis fault codes.Good Luck!!

The ole unplug and reboot the module trick will not work with the traction control and or ABS module.

Yes the module reboots and so will the faults, however the abs and traction faults will NEVER be removed untill someone with the diagnostic software tells the module to clear the respective fault. Good Luck!!

Thanks

Many thanks for the info.
I will have to wait for the fault code clear as i'm fighting a diesel leak as well at the moment so i've got the inlet manifold off frequently. hopefully i've got the right parts now and can proceed to clear the codes. will let you know.

progress

I finally got my leak sorted, it was very annoying. I thought it was the fuel pipe that goes to the bottom of the fuel cut off valve. But that was an assumption. In reality it was as google pointed out to me very quickly the sealing o-ring between the fuel shut off valve and the injection pump. So i needlessly spent about £70 on fuel pipes when a £1.80 o-ring did the job.
Grrr the silver lineing is that it only cost £70 and i have a nice fuel system with fresh filters making the engine smooth again and adding about 20% more power, guess it should have been done ages ago. Now i can get back to the abs fault.

tight as a Scotsman

So flushed with the success of fixing my diesel leak i decided to have a go at the abs again
I measured the resistance of both rear sensors... passanger side 1710 ohms and diver side 1690 ohms. this seems reasonable.
Then i measured the ac voltage
passanger side
10mph 1.1V
20mph 2.2v
30mph 3.3v

Drivers side
10mph 0.4v
20mph 0.8v
30mph 1.1V

Now at this point i have to say that i thought i had drifted the passanger side on too far. but now i'm thinking that i have not put the driver's side on far enough.
Any thoughts on this?

All I can add is that the test program I have access to is based on ignition OFF and the L and R front sensors resistance is 0.8---2.3k ohms, with the L and R rear sensors resistance is 0.6---1.8k ohms.

You will note that I have no data for varing speeds however the R and L data is the same.

You have significant voltage differences which would suggest differences in resistance which I suspect is an issue.

direction

Many thanks Plutoe.
I think that it is telling that my resistance is 1.7k which in my mind is pretty close to the working limit for the sensor, you may be correct that the driver's side is resistivley different, but i'm going with the ring being incorrectly placed as an explanation. Will take a good look and drift the ring further up the drive-shaft if possible, otherwise i'm stipping everything down to do that. Because it worked before i noticed the rings were split i assume the sensors are ok. It may be some time till i post again as we are forcast for snow as of tommorow.
Wish me luck,
or good weather.

more data

Well i dug deep and got stuck in
moved the sensor ring further up the drive shaft to where the old one was and more centered with the sensor. here are the results.
10mph 0.12v
20mph 0.25v
30mph 0.35v
And it is worse than before. So its off to ebay i go for a cheap after market sensor. Plutoe you were right i appologise for doubting you. I shall update this when the new sensor is fitted. For now we have frozen rain (hail) i expect the snow will be here during the night.

Ideas?

Thought i would be prepared and losen the speed sensor but the 5mm hex bolt is seized might have to weld a hex peice in to facilitate its removal.
Any other ideas?

Well i finally got the sensor ring moved back out and hey presto 1.1v for each 10mph, however the abs still kicks in as you stop and the system fails at 45mph.
Also the speedo needle wavers at all speeds. So i guess the front also has a problem. Anyone got any ideas on how to test each sensor and i suspect that i will end up having to replace the front hubs, again any help welcomed.
