96 E320 Transmission Question

Hi Folks,

When the engine is cold, for example, overnight or sitting for eight hours at work, the transmission shifts from second to third at 3K RPMs. It does this only the first 2 -> 3 shift. Any ideas what may be causing this?

Any info is appreciated.

My first port of call is always pull the battery and fully charge it to eliminate that as a cause. Also it would be usefull to measure voltages and give details of which autobox your car has.

The only delayed shift when cold is the 1-2 shift to warm up the catalytic converters more quickly. Under the same conditions at what RPMs does it shift from 1-2 and 3-4?

MM, normally the transmission shifts in the 1700-1800 RPM range.
