1998 AC leak and problem
Hello,
I have a 1998 E320 4Matic with an AC problem. The system must have developed a leak because the r124 is low according to the diagnostics. Initially, i noticed that something might have been wrong because the air was warmer of one side of the cabin than the other when the AC was on. The system also hisses horribly when turned on and it has been getting worse, which seems to me that it is loosing more and more. However, the EC light still has not come on permanently. I have put it on to prevent compressor damage but other than that no warnings or leaks pouring down onto the driveway. What is wrong with my system? Has a sensor gone wrong along with a leak somewhere?

Okay. I called my local dealer and they said $250. My local Chrysler dealer down the street will take care of it for 174.99, which i think should be fine since the system of this car should be similar to certain Chrysler ones (that whole Daimler-chrysler thing). As far as the compressor, i think you are right because the pressure goes up from 03 to 04. I'll have it tested and report back.
ps. my local Amoco refused to even look at it because it was a Mercedes

Find a local indy merc mechanic. My mechanic here in hawaii charges 50 dollars for a AC recharge and 30 for a leak test. I had to replace my condenser recently.
