e320 climate problem, tried search with no luck

Cant seem to find a thread with a solution to my problems. The climate control acts funny, no air to floors, randomly stops and restarts on high. If I turn it off it will come back on. I cannot get diagnostic codes, when i enter the diagnostic mode I get the blank screen, but when I push the auto button to get the first code the unit starts flashing rapidly and wont stop, also has a corresponding clicking coming from under the passengers dash. It has done this once before while I was driving but stopped when I turned the car off and was fine when I restarted it. I am assuming the control unit is bad? Any suggestions?

It will let me do the input monitoring and the voltage is around 11.5. I took the unit out and checked the connection and everything seemed tight and corrosion free. Still wont let me enter diagnostic mode to retrieve trouble codes? I have a place nearby that parts out Mercedes, I need a new trunk release so I'm thinking of pricing a new control unit to see if that fixes the problems, seems like there is a short somewhere?

There is an aftermarket cd player installed, I'll try pulling it out too and checking the wiring a little further.
