Question for Vic55
Nice AMG CL wheels...Actually, I like your BBS LM's better though.
Are you thinking of selling your LM's?? Let me know ok!!
I see that you have S-03 PP's on your car.
Actually, I just got a new set myself...stock tire size.
I noticed that the new S-03 PP tires are not as soft as my original Pilot Sport's and therefore, my launches off the line was not as good as with the original Pilot's. I noticed that there was a lot more wheel spin and I can't seem to get a good launch.
On my original tires, I got the best launches with ESP off and flooring it.
With my new S-03's, I can't seem to get a good launch.
Well at least I haven't as of yet.
I've had my tires one week.
My question is, did you experience the same thing and how did you launch the car to get the times that you posted with your G-tech timer?
Comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Edmond

In regards to the G-Tech launches I did, they were all with the ESP off and I just mashed the throttle. My times did decrease ever so slightly as the tires warmed up. You can check my previous post but I started in the 4.9's and finished with a 4.78 best. I think the S03's that I have are very sticky and according to Tirerack both the S03's and the Sports have a treadwear of 220. I think they are probably at the same level in regards to softness. I did put about 500 miles on my S03's before I did the test but those numbers were also with the BBS LM's which are around 25lbs (combined) less in weight that the AMG's (unsprung). 25 lbs is huge for unsprung weight and my car does feel a little slower right now with the heavier AMG's on it.
Here is my post of my G-Tech runs:

Thanks for the reply and the feedback.
I guess I should put some miles on my tires before trying to launch the car again. I did have some terrific launches on my old Pilot Sport tires and it sure feels different with my new S-03's.

I tried torque breaking (with ESP off and shifter on 1st gear) on my first set of Pilot Sport's and the result was not good....in fact, I think I left about 3,000 - 5,000 miles of tread on the pavement as my tires were smoking (kinda like what happens when you put WD40 on your tires and mash the throttle). The tail of my car was sliding left and right and if I left if on the gas, I most certainly would have done a donut in the intersection. Boy, did I look like an idiot next to all the lesser cars at the light. Good thing I was only testing my car and not racing anyone.
In any case, I tried a few more accelerating runs tonight and they were slightly better. I only made 2 runs and felt that the second run was definitely better. I will try a few more runs tomorrow night and see what happens. I have about 250 miles on my tires now. I noticed that excessive wheel spin again tonight (with ESP off and mashing the peddle to the point that it clicks on the floor).
On my second run, I didn't mash the throttle all the way down to the point where it clicks and actually got better acceleration doing it that way.
I actually brought my car in recently (before I changed my tires) to the shop as the ESP/BAS light came on before and told me to bring it in to the shop to get it checked. Actually the light went off again but I still brought it in. I think they changed the sensor on the ESP unit or something (have to dig up my receipt). Don't know if it has changed the acceleration of my car as it was awesome before (when I still had some tread on my old tires).
In any case, thanks for your input and I'll keep you updated on my quest for the best acceleration times.
Regards,
Edmond
