Ignition/Start-up problems
Close friend of mine owns a '99 E320 with just a tick over 50k on the clock. Up until 2 weeks ago no probs at all. Just after warranty runs out she experiences problems with the car starting.
She has replaced the starter but the prob still persists. Sounds like the starter just spins freely and the engine won't kickover.
It doesn't sound as if the fuel isn't getting there as you can hear the pump working.
lights all work etc. but the problem is intermittent. Hard for her to duplicate the problem at the dealer and currently has a friend trying to diagnose.
Did I read something about the alamr system in connection with the ignition coil or something to that extent?
Any and all posiibilities with feedback would be greatly appreciated, she's been out of action for close to three weeks now!

Intermitant ???
Crankshaft position sensor? Or maybe the knock sensor? It would be getting false timing signals or none at all.
Make sure it has a spark and is getting fuel. Might have the fuel pump pressure checked.
Starter spins and you can see that the engine is turning to make sure that the starter is engaging.
Intermitant things are tough. They never go out when they are at the shop.
I think that the alarm cuts off the fuel pump relay and you said you still hear that running...
Try another electronic key if you have both of them the car came with...
