Installed Catz HID on 99 E320

I just installed a set of Catz HIDs on my 99 E320. The lights are great and look amazing, but triggers the headlamp defected warning light. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem or whether or not there is a way to bypass this warning so that it does not show up?

The headlight warning is coming on because the resistive load of the HID ballast is much less than the H7 bulb. You can fool the sensor by inserting a parallel resistor where the ballast connects to the original wiring. I fooled my BMW fog light circuit with a 2.2K ohm resistor. It does not have to be large, but I would use at least a 1/2 watt size. You may have to go to a 1K ohm if the 2.2 does not work.

So I can fool the computer by getting a resistor from Radio shack and putting that inbetween the original wire harness and the power wire that the HID kit uses to connect to it? How did you do it? Did you solder it on?

I retro'd a set of H.I.D. ballasts from an A6 with D2S bulbs and did not get such a trigger. I did have to bump up the fuse values to 20 amps as opposed to 15. I know that during startup those little ballasts each draw 20-25 amps of current. Only for a few moments though. When they warm up I believe they only draw a few amps, 3 if I remember properly........

gtran888 - Given the start up current of the ballast is in the 25amp range, you may want to get a higher wattage resistor. A sand or wire wound type will work.

Attached is a diagram of the connection circuit.

Hope this helps. You can add a resistor in parallel if you have problems with LED turn indicator bulbs too.
