Your car's computer has a system called FSS or Flexible Service System. It monitors time and oil quality and determines when service is needed. There are two service schedules called A and B. Schedule B is more complex and they alternate. While an oil and filter change are part of each service there are several other items if done correctly. Your car came with Maintenance/Service Booklet. Same size as OM but much smaller(# pages). It lists the requirements for an A or B service. After the service is performed the FSS can be reset so it will begin the count down to the next service and eliminate the message you are seeing. That is described in the owners manual. If you are missing the docs they are available from a dealer. FYI - ebay sellers sometimes try to charge two times or more than the dealer for a used copy! MB has downloadable OM but not farther back than MY2000.
