2000 E430 4MATIC CD Changer in Trunk

The CD Changer for this vehicle is in the trunk. I do not know how it works or if it works. The car was a one owner vehicle, and frankly I do not even know if the owner did anything with the car. There is an auxillary wire in the slot under the radio deck. I confess, I have no idea how to work the cd changer. Does it come in and out of the trunk and hook into the wire?

When I select CD on the radio deck the message i get is "no cd".???

Any advice or points in the right direction. Thanks,
