Engine Swap

At 248,000 my 1998 e320 is tired. I've located a low mileage engine from a 2001 e320 but my mechanic said they weren't compatible due to wiring. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks, just bought the motor. I got such a deal I have nothing to lose.
Time to crack out the wiring diagrams
