Intermittent Vibration

Hi All. My '02 E430 has a vibration when I get into top gear - anything above 50 or so. Accelerating or decelerating, neutral throttle - doesn't matter. It is intermittent every 5 seconds or so for perhaps 1-2 seconds. I have had the motor mounts replaced recently, and have brand new tires on it. It come from the undercarriage is as close as I can narrow.

My Mechanic (independent shop) is perplexed as well, and has ridden in it with another mech to try to isolate the source, to no avail.

Any/All ideas welcome. Tired of driving the 98 C230 all the time!

Thanks, Alan

Vibration

You may want to check the flex joints on the drive shaft. One at the transmission and and the other at the differential. I had a vibration that was some what similar but worse under acceleration and I found it was caused by the rear flex joint. I changed both and now smooth as silk

Thanks. Unfortunately, mechanic has ruled those out as being in good shape...may have him double check anyway as he is totally perplexed. Thanks again, mufc.
