Advice on some aesthetic pieces

(First time poster, sorry for the request)
I'm planning to surprise my grandfather with some improvements to his '02 430 for his birthday soon.
I'm planning on a full detail, as well as a complete tune up. However, I would also like to give him some aesthetic improvements, and I need some help.
The most prevalent blemish on the car in my opinion is the lining between the windshield and the hood, as you can see in the album. I'm not sure if I should remove the plastic pieces that are falling out, or just let it fall out on it's own? I know it has to have some purpose, but it just makes this otherwise beautiful car look terrible.
You will also notice in the album the picture of the headlight lens. Him and I both worked a bit ago to polish them a while back, however we could never get the few last streaks of film(oxidation) off. I am wondering if I can sand it down, or if it's even on the outside, and not just on the inside of the lens, in which case I would have to replace the entire light assembly, I believe?
Any tips would be appreciated, Thanks.

Those windshield trim pieces are pretty cheap. I think I paid around $30 for the pair (most likely from autohausaz or rmeuropean but I don't remember exactly) and they are very easy to replace.
Just did some quick digging around and found an A 210 831 09 58 part number for one of those trim pieces.
