Cold Air Intake-ECU 97 E320

I just installed a CAI on my 97 W210. (Bear in mind that cylinder 3 is already missing-I am going to replace the coil)
When I first started it up it ran like it was with the missing cylinder... When i revved it it fell to under 500 RPM and almost died... Weird... So I drove it around the neighborhood and down a couple of back roads and now it is running fine, but my friend said that I might need an ECU tune... Is this necessary? If so how much can I get one for? Where? I want a good quality inexpensive one. Actually I would like info on an ECU tune regardless of necessity.

You aren't from Seattle are you? The reason I say that is because most FITW folks that I read about say change the crank position sensor if they think he engine stumbles.

In any event you have a 97 car valued at about 2000 bucks and you want to try and get some extra HP outa the car by spending 400 bucks by having the ECU reprogrammed to do so. Personally I would remove my friend from my holiday gift list.

I would also spend some time searching "MB engine tuning"----there are years of reading on the subject----then you make the decision

FITW=finger in the wind

No i'm from TN. What does FITW mean? sorry i'm new. I actually work for the dealership that I bought it from so I got a good deal on it but im not wanting to spend that much on it. I was wondering if there were any for less than 250 bucks. It's just a thought anyway. And I have talked to one of the mechanics at work about MB engine tuning and he says that it wont HURT it but the way I take it is that he doesnt think I should.

Might be off topic - but where did you get your CAI? And what brand?
