LED transmission display

The LED transmission display is starting to go out on my 2001 E320, while the vehicle is 12 years old now, doesn't seem too impressive on build quality since there is only 9,500 miles on it.

Anyone familiar with with the problem is and what steps are needed to make the repair? Easy to do, or best left to someone who is used to pulling out the gauge cluster?

Pictures were taken in 'park' but without the ignition key 'on', so no gear-selected is showing. It will display 'P', 'R', etc. but pixels are missing when displayed.

Thank you.

My 2001 E320 began having that issue last summer. It started out like your photo then it got worse than it got better so I am leaving it alone for now. There is a Do It Yourself about how to fix it permanently with good photos and explanations. The most difficult part seems to be removing the instrument cluster (haven't tried yet). Check the DIY. I would wait until it gets worse. The trans read out goes and the clock goes too. They are both on the same connector. Good luck.

A well known fault, mine is much worse than that. I bought a kit off FleaBay but haven't fitted it yet. Loads of DIYs on this subject! Try Benzworld too.
