Loud buzzer

Hi,on my 2000 E430 about 80% of the time when I start it I get a loud brief penalty buzzer (not the seat belt buzzer).I was wondering if this is normal or can it be shut off. Thanks

When does the buzzer go off during the starting process. That question will require you to list the steps you take to start the car---example---1 insert key--does the buzzer go off?2 bla bla

Hi Plutoe,The alarm only sounds once the car has physically started, after the cranking process.

I would say the sound is not normal---------are you able to localize the sound(passanger vs engine)?? Does it buzz for about the same lenght of time every time??

As you can start to imagine trying to diagnose the source of the sound is time consuming.

Keep in mind your thinking of it as being made by the cars "mechanics" or body. Its actually being made by a buzzer that is clearly meant to make this sound. However its good to know that its not normal. The only thing mercedes said via phone was that maybe theres something stored in the computer causing it to do this. Its just extremely brief and annoying.

Oh by the way its clearly in the car,I suppose if I could find the buzzer,I could disconnect it although I hate to go that route.

that is probably the SOS thingy, whatever MB's equivalent to Onstar is. some
folks just disconnect the speaker which, I believe, is in the A pillar, near the dash.
others bring the car in and ask the dealer to extinguish via STAR Diagnosis System.

it's a two tone warning which lasts for about 1 sec, right?

Its just one tone, one loud beep.It actually reminds me of a penalty buzzer,as if youve done something wrong. But it does last about one second and i think you maybe right.

same. it is an annoying two dissimilar tones designed to be annoying...like the
touch tone phone: each button tone is the byproduct of two tones.

Teleaid...Teleaid....Teleaid....
