diesel purchase
Hi Everyone,
looking for advice or input, am looking at a 96 300 diesel non turbo, and don't know what to look for , so any help would be appreciated. it has 136,000 miles and body seems in good shape, any idea what were the better years for mercedes diesel? and what should i be looking for before deciding to purchase or not.
thanks for your help

Out Of Control!!
All years up to and including the W211 I6 diesels are great. They are easy to maintain and diagnose, however the non turbos are dogs The bad news is that you better be a good mechanic, because very few places know how to diagnose and fix CORRECTLY. The other bad news is that from 96 to 99 huge improvements were made to the mechanical injection system---the 211 are all electronic fuel injectors!!
Don't get me wrong I love my turbo, but I wish I had an I6 W211 diesel(they are all turbo)
Take the car and get a DAS Xentry quick scan done before you make your decision---if you know about scans that will tell you much about the car
PS: always keep the tank quarter full as you never want to run out of fuel!!
