Please help : problem to start the car
Hi, I have a 1999 Mercedes class E 320 4 matic and I have a problem with my key. It can lock and unlock the door, but cannot start the car. I see a massage witch says 'Take key'. I don't know what to do, please help.
Thank you!

First, welcome to the forum, Peter.
The MB 'Smart Key' has two separate functions. The first - locking/unlocking and the second - starting. Depending on the problem it can sometimes only do one but not both. In your case, the key is not being recognized by the DAS (Drive Authorization System). One possibility is that the car's computer thinks the transmission is not in 'Park'. Another is that the key was never properly synchronized to the car. If the key started the car recently then that's unlikely. Also, the key has a circuit board with a tiny coil at the tip. If the key has been dropped, the coil could be damaged and the key wouldn't work.
Finally, did anyone spill liquid on the center console? This can cause a fault in the electronics under the gear shift lever causing a no-start problem.
