E320 speakers

The bose speakers and non bose speakers have the same plugs, are they interchangeable?

one thing should be pointed out and that is that proper matching of the
speaker's impedance needs to be made based on the amplifier selected.
if not evaluated properly, you could be setting up a condition in which
the amp will over-extend itself and suffer premature failure.

so while the speaker may be interchangeable, you really need to look at
the devil-in-the-details and probe for more specifics.....

list all the specifications and balance the system for optimal performance

The non bose system car doesn't have an amp. The non bose speakers are 4ohm, any idea what the bose are?

they should be 4 ohms as well

I didn't try to assume that the components you used would be OE so the amp
would (still) be integrated into the head unit, or as a seperate. Still, it
shouldn't be difficult to assess the suitability of each component when
assessing the system. So it sounds as if you're sticking with MB...which
raises no red flags

There isn't an amp in the trunk like the e320 equipped with the bose system. I'm surprised all the output comes from the head unit since the bose and non bose can use the same head unit. I will be pleased if both systems are 4 ohm's.

What I've always been confused about, is that if the speakers are rated at 4 ohms - what if there's more than one speaker connected to that channel? For example, the left rear door speakers are connected in parallel or series with the ones on the rear deck shelf? Or what about if there's a tweeter involved? Or is this all calculated in the total system impedance?

Lastly, I too thought it was amusing that the Bose system essentially takes the "speaker level outputs" of the existing head unit to the Bose amp directly.

I don't know specifically for Mercedes but OEM on american cars they are usually wired in parallel with a passive crossover for the door speakers.

If the speaker has a coaxial tweeter the impedance rating would be for the entire assembly including the crossover. Which by the way if you are installing as a replacement to your existing in door (mid/high range) speakers might present a problem as you would eliminate the existing crossover. You might end up with too little resistance with a full range speaker in the door.

I purchased a Kenwood head unit and fed the preamp output into my oem bose amp and speakers. It brought the sytem to life. FM sounds a thousand times better then before, AM radio reception is excellent now )was nonexistant before) and USB sound quality from my ipad is amazing. Bluetooth audio is handy. bluetooth hands free is a bit sketchy with my Blackberry. Perhaps an iiPhone would be better.

I don't have an amp, I have the non bose system which doesn't come with an amp. I have the non bose system and just plan on changing the non bose speaker to the bose speakers.
