Maintenance ?

Hi Guys:

I own a 2001 w/ very low mileage, 16k miles and it was passed down to me.

I got it in 06' when it had 5,600 miles, since then I have changed the oil 2-3 times but not the coolant, brake or trans fluid. I am not too sure if this was done prior to my ownership. I want to keep this car for a while, so if you were in my shoes would you recommend changing these out. I heard coolant can break down...please advise. Thanks!

change them per MB service intervals. hopefully you can do this yourself and
save some cash. here is an FAQ of various topics, including Service A and B

p.s. brake fluid is hydroscopic and *could* have absorbed some moisture and
undergone some degradation over that time. it's cheap @ bottle. if you have
a pump, it's an easy do-it-yourself task. the transmission is unlikely to need
anything for another 50k

At the annual mileage you are driving (10K/7yrs) MB recommends doing an A or B schedule service (they are consecutive) each year. raymond's 'cheat sheet' is very useful. In addition there is a Service Booklet for your car. Same size as OM but much thinner. You can get one from a dealer (~$12). Rule for brake fluid flush is every 2 yrs (all Manufacturers not just MB) and coolant flush every 3 years.
