38,000+ Km on my modded 98 E240 Advantgarde. Regularly serviced at 5k km.

Believe it or not, have trashed a 355 Modenna, WRX Impreza and Nissan GTR up a steep (hummmmmm....at least on take off )

Only problem is the driver's window gets stuck half way up on auto close - ever since I got it a year ago at 25K Km

Love the feel, look, solid, there is nothing like a Benz. Yet frustrated with quality problems:

*BAS/ESP/ABS lights just came on (dealing with now)
*Steering column loose
*Popping noise from poorly engineered driver's seat frame
*Left rear window motor broke
*Creeking noise from rear roof headliner area
*LED warning display dim on one side (can't see temp)
*Car sometimes jumps/lurches into gear right after I start and put in Drive (Side note, the 210 transmission has always been a very slow, non-responsive tranny that inhibits me from enjoying the nice 4.3L V8 when put under demand)
*Just had a huge regular maintenence service bill (and the mechanic said the car's in great shape)
*Oh, but he said I'll need a new stater switch that he indicated is a common-place $500 item that goes on the Es, & Ss all the time

I'm the only one in my office who drives a Benz any more. They've all seemed to go Lexus. I've had multi-decade benz loyalist friends who vow to never buy another MB again. What's going on here? I'm frustrated as even I am beginning to believe its not making logical or financial sense to own an MB. I really wanted to get W211 E55 AMG someday! I'm starting to wonder if that would be a poor decision?

Ambivalent.

At least you've still got one of the best looking sedans in the lot, if not the best.

Comment made on your other post but just want to say, the non-responsive tranny is intentional to stop you and your passengers from getting whip lashed when your V8 takes off i.e. a comfort feature. Take it gradual and your ride will still do a respectable 0-60 - its just a different style of driving, "MB style"! It'll grow on ya and I'm sure u'll appreciate your ride over time.

Org Gear box (only 1 fuild change about 1.5 years ago).
Smooth, quite and no smoke.
Once a week or so I make sure I give it full throttle on a steep hill to blow out any deposits (normally get a little white smoke doing this).
Once or twice a year I use a Fuel Treatment.
29 MPG on avarage (Metric)

1996 E320
96' E320, just a few problems. My dad purchased it for me about a year ago, upon purchasing we inspected it and replaced the front ball joints a lip started to come in on the rotors so we changed those as well as the pads. We also had to replace the rubber junctions dealing that are in between gears. Crankshaft sensor went out about 134K, replaced whole wiring harness but it boosted my vehicle's performance. Headlights are a little sun-baked, no biggie, i just buffed them out. Right now im at about 135400 and my car is running very well. Shocks are a bit too bouncy for my taste, definitely need to change them but other than that I love it.

After a good while, things start to you know... wear down. haha.

2001 E320 bought it in 2003 with 51K miles and now has 111K. Let's see for my driving pleasure I change the stock sway bars for Eibach heavy duty ones with their rubber (marshmellow) bushings. Later had to change them out for Polyurethane bushings. Upsoluted the ECU. Lights - changed out the headlamps and high beams to Xenon bulbs. Also the foglights. The fogs blew out like birthday candles. Changed over to an Xtreme H1 HID 4300k HID Conversion Kit and no problems so far. Considering changing out the headlamps the same way. Parking lights are LED h6w compatibles, gives off a bluish color when inserted in the housing. Now the best part about this car and rear lights. How many times do people approach you and say that you have a rear light out? Then try to explain about the rear foglight and only needing one and they always say "well the other one is out!". And to top that off, a guy driving the same exact car stated that same thing. And then he argued that our cars don't have a rear foglight. Obviously not a MBWorld member.
Repairs - at 100K replaced motor mounts, tranny mount, harmonic balancer, Serpentine belt and the front O2 sensors. No one online seems to have the rear ones (Bosch 16276) in stock for under $200 a piece.
Need to repair - instrument cluster, the temp is always --[. I will do this in the spring, I don't live to far from BBA Remanufacturing Inc. a place that repairs them.

203,500 miles on my 97 E420, have only replaced tires, brake pads, rotors, fluids, filters. Does not burn a drop of oil, I change the Mobil 1 every 9000 miles. The most reliable car I have owned to date.
