how many miles do you have ???
Overall, I'm quite happy with the car. I expected it to need some things with the miles on the car and the price I got on it.
1988 E320 124,000 First problem car wouldn't start! MB Roadside told me to "let the car cool off and try to start it again. If it starts then it's the crankshaft sensor" So I did, it started I drove it home. I've had the car for 1 month. How much did it cost you to get that sensor replaced?
when they start to go they will behave that way, but when they fail, you will not have an operational engine. not a happy thought in the left lane of the freeway.

My 2003 E320 wagon is at 69k with new tires at 56k staggered set 245/265 running on 18s Brabus M5. Brakes are now due. No engine issues. Motor is 3.8 Brabus V6. Mobil One with filter every 6K. Left rear tailight bulb replaced four times, last with socket. Now having issues with W/S switch. Will not start in first unless manully shifted and left driver mirror delaminating. Working on that. Mods I did were tints at 20%, coco mats, eibach bars front and rear. Love that wagon. White with java. Oh and a matching child seat in Java for the little skirt
.My dad had only Buick wagons growing up, last being a 94 Roadmaster. Wagons add so much to what can be done. Enjoy the open road
Bought my W220 last year at 54K mile. 12 months later, it's now 96K mile. So far on the W220, the EIS went out, and the air-matic need reseal ($500 job each). I do my own oil change & service now (w/ oil extractor), mobile-one every 10K mile. Car still run and handle very well, look as new.
When I bought the car, the dealer offer extended warranty (by Mercury) for $4K, cover up to 100K mile or 4 years (whatever first), I didn't take it. Look like it's the right choice. They wouldn't cover air-matic job anyway.
I get better gas mileage w/ my 2003 S430 (21-22 mpg) than my 98 E320 (20-21). And the S430 is a much heavier car, wider & larger tire & more power. Go figure. Same commute & driving habit here.
Gotta love Benz, look & feel is pretty much independent of mileage.

What did it cost you to fix the rust?? I have a little bubbling on the drivers side door. But I'm afraid of what it will cost.
Only major repair to date was a new transmission at around 110k.
The usual wear/maintenance stuff (water pump, shocks, battery, brakes, etc.)
Some minor repairs that these cars are prone to (LOTS of light bulbs, blower motor regulator, a couple window regulators, etc.)
Have almost 70k more miles to go for the "500,000 km" grille badge
