Fuel cap replacement?
When I bought my E320 a few months ago, I noticed how loose the gas cap was. As expected, the Check Engine light came on not long after. I pulled the codes, and sure enough, it was the gas cap.
I replaced the cap at Advance Auto, thinking an aftermarket cap would surely be tighter. No dice - the new cap is only slightly better fitted than the original, and I still occasionally get codes from it.
Has anyone found a decent replacement cap that avoids these issues?

Just replace the gasket. About $5 at dealer. If you don't have a gasket, that's your problem. Should be a little hard to turn providing a good seal.

I replaced mine with the MB old style - maybe from the W124 - works fine. So many dealers sell online now, it's a matter of finding one you can live with. No need to set foot into the "den of thieves".

I actually do have to set foot in there, anyway - I have to get some keys, and those aren't available except in person. Besides, there are new MBs at the other end of the building to drool at...
