kleen wheels link

guys, if anyone cares, i found a place that has a good selection of 'kleen wheels' fitments for our cars
i have been looking for a while and found it difficult to find a fit for my w210.

here's the link if it helps. no affiliation whatsoever.

kleen wheels for MB by auto-extra.com

i did buy and install "Product: ds-1093" which fits standard 5 hole e430 17" wheels.

i know not everyone favors this product, but this will be my third car that i put them on, and i had no probs with my 2 other cars (bimmers) that i have had them on.

08 Lexus GS350 AWD. 08 Lexus RX350 AWD - wife's. 94 MBZ E320 - still have it.
I had those kleen wheels on my 94 E320 for about a year. Ended up throwing them away.

Those kleen wheels seriously obstruct air flow to the brake disks. As long as I was driving the car locally, everything was fine. But then I went from OR to CA, over several mountain passes, which involved a lot of braking at high speeds. My brake disks got warped badly. I replaced them and the new ones got warped after 5K miles. Then I turned the rotors, trew away the kleen whells and everything is normal now. I will never put kleen wheels on my car anymore.

my experience

like i said , others here may frown on them , and i didnt intend to spark up a debate, only wanted to inform the board on a source.
in my personal experience , i used these on an e34 bmw for several years of daily 2 x 50 mi NYC commute , meaning lots of stop and go, and when i could gun it , i would. and i never had a problem. i also use them on current e46 cab for mostly highway , less stress , been on for about 8k , same OK results.
maybe its MB vs BMW brakes?
ps , i did use EBC greens on my w202 and my rotors went after around 5k.
so i'll stick with the kleen wheels until proven otherwise.
thanks to all , john.

E34 vs your W210

Hello jago, How would you compare the reliability between your E34 and your W210? I had a '94 540ia, I purchased it with 65Kmi, I replaced so maintenance items, from thrust arm bushings to the waterpump within the next 15K to 20K miles. What about you?

Thanks,

rob lee

e34 v w210

hi rob_fed,

my w210 is a newer 12/01 build with 20k now. problems are few and of the common kind , just foglights out and sunroof clunk(solved), in addition to a steering wheel squeal that required new steering rack , (maybe MB service overkill) , all warranty items. nothing else noted.
my former w202 was also satisfactory for the 3yr i owned it btw.

i'm not too surprised to hear you have issues with the e34.
i found my mine ('92 525ia) to be more annoying at the same age and mileage, in that a lot of non-critical things went wrong from the get-go, from idle problems to mirrors falling off , and a bunch of elec related issues, incl tranny program, that i cant recall completely. head gasket leak at 50k and unknown susp noises near the end of my ownership.
that said, the car never did leave me stranded in 100k miles of use , and the technology and production process was/is older than a late w210.
j.

Thanks for the reply. I agree that improvements to the automobile manufacturing process and design technology over the last 10 years have a lot to do with the problems not found in the MBZ vs. my older Bimmer. But when it came down to the failures of the fuel, power steering, and water pump(s), I think thngs could have been a lot better in those areas, even 6-10 years ago.

Thanks again,

Rob Lee
