Strutmasters Mistake

I purchased a Rear Air Suspension Conversion Kit for my 02 e320 4 matic wagon from Strutmasters. Had my mechanic install it and noticed an unresponsive, noisy harsh ride. My mechanic called customer service at Strutmasters, spent 4 hours removing interior, reinspecting everything and still had a poor ride. After second call with customer service, Strutmasters sent a different set of struts to replace the original kit set. Today I spoke with a supervisor who said the VP would not authorize any assistance in payment for my mechanic's labor to replace the wrong/ defective parts. I would strongly advise anyone against considering using this company or changing the original air system over to coil springs and struts. I learned the hard way after spending $526 in parts and another $425 in labor so far. Still debating if I want to pay for another 4 hours of labor to put what are basically Monroe shocks.

On the original order did you ask Strutmasters to define the correct package or did you order a package based on a package that you defined and then ordered??

I called them and asked them what I needed for my vehicle. They picked out the kit.

To my twisted way of thinking, if Strutmastars defined the part, I suspect they typically replace the part if defective, but doubt very seriously that the Strutmaster's warranty covers any labor, because your mechanic is not an authorized Strutmaster installer.

The other interesting point is that was the package really defective or did they replace with a different package to satisfy a very subjective statement----quote unresponsive, noisy harsh ride unquote.

Sounds like one of those talking to the choir episodes!!

Spoke today with the owner of Strutmasters who offered $130 toward my labor costs to replace the 2nd set of struts. Although it is less than what I will pay my mechanic, I will give him credit for being a standup guy.

Good luck with the replacement shocks. I am curious however as to why you chose to replace the hydraulic setup with self leveling for an aftermarket setup.

My dealer told me it would be over 2 grand to fix the existing rear suspension. The independent shop talked me into switching to the coil springs/ strut replacement. In hindsight, I believe it was a mistake.

Sorry you have to go through this. Dealer prices are through the roof. What did they say needed to be replaced? I am going thru something similar. I bought a wagon to resell, and one of the POs did what you did so I am in the process of returning the rear suspension to the hydraulic setup. Anyway, good luck with the new shocks.
